Thoughts on books/authors I'm reading...
Topics: Programming

In science fiction/fantasy, I was interested in Stephen Baxter for awhile, but he hasn't released anything in awhile, apart from one book that seemed kind of derivative. I'm still keeping an eye on his stuff. Terry Pratchett's Discworld series is a continual interest of mine. I liked Neil Gaiman's American Gods, Good Omens, and Neverwhere -- I might want to try one of his series works. Stephen King's non-horror stuff, like the Gunslinger and Talisman series are good.

In philosophy, I've been trying to decide what I want to start reading next. Maybe I should get one of the linguistic philosophers, like Debb suggests.

In technical/science books, I'm currently working on Design Patterns, on loan from a co-worker. It's a good book, but the examples for the patterns arn't always good enough that it's intuitive why one would ever want some of the patterns. Perhaps my choice of Perl and C as my primary languages is responsible -- different things are hard in different languages.

Debb and I wrote a simple CGI recently. It was a lot of fun -- it does mad libs. It'd be great to be able to do more.. I also should investigate her laptop -- she's thinking about putting linux on a partition.

I've been having problems sleeping recently. Today is a lot better than the last few days -- I'm on 6 hours, but I need to get better at falling asleep faster when my head hits the pillow. Why do I get so tired at times where I shouldn't sleep? I think that's not just a recent thing either -- in the past, I remember being at my place, needing to stay awake because someone was coming over, and feeling incredibly tired and sleepy. Then, they called and cancelled, so I relaxed, and tried to let that fuzzy seduction take me.. but it was gone. How perverse.
