So, I'm writing this on forrester, not holly, which either fell off the network, or more likely suffered another heatstroke. Not easy to tell from this distance. All the more reason that nd should be server-based. Oh well.
I still haven't heard back from her. Argh. Worried.
Anyhow, as to the conference, the Ruby talk was really awesome. The speaker was really knowledgable, had a good sense of humour, and he has a nice british accent. I learned a lot, got lots of questions answered, etc. After the end of the classes, I went to eat dinner with some other attendees, and then to the keynote sessions. Larry was the star of the pack, as expected, when it came to humour and stuff. However, he seemed kind of tired, and mentioned on the side that he was having money problems, in so many words. Kind of depressing. I wonder if there's some way I can help. So many things I care about, not enough me. I then went to the party afterwards, held by activestate. There was a lot of drinking (I didn't partake, but you know that, if you know me). There were also some good light snacks. I'm not eating that balanced of a diet out here :) I was feeling a bit bummed that even among geeks, I still wasn't really able to feel comfortable, but I remembered that it was the social geeks that went to the party, and that I'm not broken even among my kind.. at least, that's what I like to tell myself. Heh. After a bit, I went back outside the bar (which was incredibly fancy), and fiddled with my camera while resting on the bench. It's interesting that there were people living above all the stores on that little, expensive strip by the water.
The conference this year isn't quite what it was previous years, at least from my impressions now. I'll write more about that later -- maybe I'll turn out to be judging too much based on the class portion, as the conference portion starts today.
It's not fun lacking a laptop here. *sigh* Anyhow, I'm off to the keynote. This should be a fun day.
