I just decided, on the way home from work, to see if I can upgrade to a recent kernel and keep my pretty 3d acceleration, and found that ATI's drivers are still broken on amd64 for recent kernels. Fortunately, I kept a copy of all the rpms I need for fglrx with 2.6.16-1.2111, so I could simply uninstall 2.6.17.whatever, do a few rpms, and I'm back to my old but working setup. I find all this vendor-driver stuff to be a major pain in the ass. Argh.
Resolved: KGB just isn't a good thing for me to go to. That's enough. I'm out. If I'm as sure tomorrow as I feel right now, I'll cut the electronic ties. As I may have said before, if KGB were a girlfriend, I'd've ended it with her by now. Some cool people, but I don't feel liked, appreciated, or anything but quietly tolerated. I guess this means I'm kind of wandering again, because I seem to have a need for some social fabric beyond the 4 good friends I have around (and a pair of them have been so busy with things that I haven't seen much of them anyhow). It's a pity that the SFF crowd is so far away.. and the Zets crowd isn't something I care to dip my toes into again. Maybe I'll try to live without a crowd.. I wonder how much all of this social stuff is purely instinct.. a built-in need for a tribe..
I recently saw a mirror of sorts, and it was .. interesting to look into it.
I've had a lot of good music to listen to. Yay! I also have a lead on a local hatter, so I can finally get a hat that will fit my head. I just need to win the game of phone tag (which should be managable). The weather has been awesome too.
